Another Drawing from high school that was left forgotten and unnatended until just now when I found it and finished it.

so please brace yourself, because, this guy isn't a deer

I know! right? he even looks like a deer, but in fact what we have here is a Pronghorn (antilocapra americana).

The pronghorn is awsome for many reasons, but mostly because it's one of thos animals that really no one seems to know about. for one, it's more widely known as an "american Antelope" , thanks to the song home on the Range (where the deer and the antelope play, yes?) even though it's not even related to antelopes. In fact, their closest living relatives are Giraffes! (which they still are very far removed from)

The pronghorns are a true odball amongst ungulates. they are antelope sized with striking patterns on their throats, and have antler-like forked horns. Like a deer's antlers, they shed the horns every year, but only the outer covering made of keratin, and the bony cores of the horns are retained throughout life. They are extremely fleet runners, and after the cheetah, they are the fastest land animals on earth. some argue that they are indeed the fastest, because they can maintain top speed for quite a distance, where as the slightly faster cheetah can only sprint for a short durration.

Their natural range spans the interior of the North American continent, from the desert in central mexico, right up to Sasketchewan [link] (range map)
Depite their wide range, I wanted to give him a very southwestern look, I don't remember why, but since the subspecies that lives in the Sonoran Desert is Endangered, perhaps that makes sense. I'm not sure what an herbivore is doing with a bow and arrow though XD

anyway, the specklies off the side of his face are 1) a grease spot because I made the mistake of leaving this in the kitchen unattended and 2) marker bleed spots, because I started working on something else without realising that this drawing was underneath D:
