GUH!!! Don't get me started on the sacrilege surrounding the movie pippin!!!! Did they not read the descriptions of him in the book AT ALL??? Pippin's a TWEEN!!! , A KID!! His Hobbit age is 28, but according to my calculations, that's 14 in human years....YET they got some guy in his 30's to play pippin!!??? I'm sorry, but theat's just untollerable >.>*

But I just wanted to explain my calculations: In the middle ages, people didn't live as long as they do today (poor nutrition, poor sanitation etc.) and the lifespan of the average peasant was only 35 years....Only nobility or really healthy people made it into their 50's, but living longer than that was reaaly rare. Tolkien said that the average lifespan of a person in middle earth is 50 years and since hobbits live to be 100-102 years old, they live roughly twice as long as humans, and since they aren't considered adults until 33, it can be inferred that they age slower too. So to figure out a hobbits age, I divide the age by 2. That makes 33 years old equal 16 and a half in human years, which makes sense, since in the middle agesa, because your life expectancy was short, (and you needed to make some babies befor e the end of course) you could get married off as early as 12! but the norm was between 14 and 16. Now, I thought was it was was weird that 32 wasn't the age of adulthood, since it divides to 16 exactly.....but at 33, that makes a hobbit spends exactly 1/3 of its life in childhood, 1/3 in adulthood and 1/3 in old age
But who knows what tolkiens true intentions were...that's just my guess ^^

And GOOD LORD, WOMAN, that is some impressive calculation. (Although my theory is that you have to make characters visually appealing, considering it's a visual medium. But I know how you feel. I used to read a LOT of Stephen King allll the time. So I advise anybody that wants to watch a movie based on one of his books NEVER to watch one of them with me. I'll nitpick the poor thing to death.)
Also: I love his knees. And his hair. And his tummy, most most most of all. > 3<
But yeah, I agree that they should make visually appealing characters, but they should at least get hair colour and basic stuff like that right....did I mention gender >.< yeah, I nitpick too, but the sad thing is, most of the things I nitpick about either affect the story minimally, or don't affect it at all.....I'm just a stickler that remakes should be true to the original creators vision with some creative liscense, but not twisting the story to your own vision....if you want to make an original movie, go make up your own story as far as i'm concerned....
I love his tummy and knees too ;o;
and for more interesting [lotr] charactrer backgrounds, come join the party! the more the merrier!
